There is no specific temperature that requires a visit to the ER, although 106 is pretty high. What's more important is the other symptoms, ie. how the patient looks & feels. If you have a cough & runny nose, then it's probably just a virus. On the other hand, if you have severe abdominal pain, or severe headache, or can't keep anything in your stomach, then you should be evaluated by a physician. Also, recurrent fever is not unexpected for most benign disease such as the flu or ear infection.

Normal body temp is 98.6. A fever of 3 degrees or more above the norm can be very dangerous. Acetaminophen is best to knock out fever. If fever persists for more than 3 or 4 days it is also dangerous

A fever of 106 may not kill for a while. But it may start to cause brain damage. You should never let a fever go unattened. Take something for a fever as soon as you feel it coming on. If it gets worse or if it persists, you should go see a doctor quickly. Don't let it get over 97 - 98F ( 38 - 39 C) degrees. Go see a doctor if it does.

At 106, you should drink a lot of water, and go to the hospital to get some meds to help you with it. If a fever gets too high, then you could lose brain cells. I'm not sure how high it would have to be to do that, but if it has gotten this high, go the safest route.

above 103 your blood starts to get to the boiling point causing seizures, difficulty seeing, and possibly a stroke.
