I had gotten a virus in my computer. After I got rid of it I noticed my background picture was gone. I went to the properties menu to put it back on but it won't let me, It will only let me choose solid colors. The only time the picture does show up is when I shut the computer down. It's the last thing I see right before it shuts down. What's wrong?????

I am not sure what operating system you are using, but if you are using Windows 2000, Me or 98 then you may have an option to turn off Virtual Desktop. Virtual Desktop was a setting used in conjunction with Internet Explorer and enabled many different types of backgrounds (jpeg files etc.) it also used a lot of resources and cancels out any images you may have already chosen for a background.

Right click on your desktop, see if there is a checkmark next to Virtual Desktop.. uncheck it and it should show your original background. If you don't see it on the right click menu, go to your Desktop properties and under one of those tabs should be an option to disable virtual desktop.

I apologize for not having precise step-by-steps but I have been using XP for a while and am going from memory.

Hope that helps some.
