Please buy this puppy on the condition that if it does not get along with your dog you can bring it back. You will usually know within 3 days. There are so many homeless animals out there I would hate to see another one. Also DO NOT be over attentive to the puppy and not spend time with the cocker. Jealousy can be a great driver of competition and fights among animals. Good luck, and enjoy your retriever. Note: I have had cockers and even the agressive ones tend to love other dogs. KEEP THEIR FOOD BOWLS ON SEPARATE ENDS OF THE ROOM. Cockers are very territorial about their food.

Both dogs are beautiful animals!

The only problem I see as far as making your dogs get along is that the spaniel will have to learn to share. That's where you come in: You make the rules, so you need to be consistent about enforcing them. The puppy is going to grow up being used to having the other dog around, so that shouldn't be a trouble.

Good luck!

Get a different sex puppy and it will be easier, they won't be competing for alpha female or male spot. Make sure you don't give the new puppy more attention than your other dog, that will just make it jealous. Dogs are social pack animals, so its very possible that your dog will actually welcome the puppy.
