Yes Richard especially as this is the month that the church remembers in a special way the Holy Souls in Purgatory, there are many prayers with a plenary indulgence attached to them you can buy a little prayer book and say them however the Chaplet of Divine Mercy is a powerful obtainer of the release of souls.

2 Machabees 12:46, it is therefore a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins.

I didn't think anybody believed that Medieval stuff any more. There is no basis anywhere for either indulgences or purgatory. The Church made it all up. If you must believe in an afterlife - and many people find that belief comforting - leave it at heaven and hell.

No... first there is no such thing as purgatory...second there is nothing you can do for any one who has already ended this mortal existance.... the souls of those who have ended this mortal existence sleep untill called by Christ when he comes for The Church... those of The Church will go with Christ to Heaven...those who are waiting for judgment will continue to sleep untill the judgment.

purgatory does not exist. It is an invention of the Catholic Church designed to make people want to pay money to get their loved ones out of there. It's a scam.

Go to a used Catholic Bookstore and buy a copy of The Raccolta (1857 was the last great version). Or, just use this on-line version:

Purgatory doesn't exist. It is a fake creation of the RCC. The Bible doesn't have any purgatory.

The dead are either immediately in heaven or hell. There is no inbetween

Nope. Get to Heaven by faith, not works. Where do you find Purgatory in the bible? How can you prove there is such a place?
