Check out the Dog Whisperer on National Geographic TV
He is AWESOME!!! You have to be the pack leader and assert calm energy. If you take the leash and feel that you will not succeed, the dog will sense that and make sure you don't.

Good luck and remember your are the leader and not the dog.

I personally don't give any weight to the whole pack leader thing. Dogs are so far removed from wolves they don't need to do it. You have an intelligent dog, maybe a terrier?? Lots of intelligent dogs have this issue.
Your dog has trained you, not the other way around.
Revisit that class, talk to the instructor and try again. When you walk into the house, you go through the door first, not the dog. If your dog is begging or bugging you, ignore it. It has to learn you are in charge. Buy a good book too.
Keep up the good work, be patient and go back to class.
Your dog will come around.
I wanted to mention this as well. An answer further down talked about flipping the dog on its back. I had heard that before and heard that if the dog is naughty you flip it like that and speak sternly to it's face. I have since heard this is not a good method with dogs and I completely agree. I did this with a dog I had and it was a terrier. It was going after a smaller dog in the house and so I picked her up and did exactly that, flipped her over. However, apparantly she was in a frenzy, like her mind was disconnected with her body. She bit me right on the face on the lip. I spent an entire day at the hospital and weeks of recovery and the spot still hurts even though it was several years ago. Oh, I didn't put her down for that, she felt so bad about it. She hung her head for days when she was near me. But I have since heard the flipping method is not the best. Wish I'd heard that before. So don't do it when your dog is misbehaving.

I am the Alpha ***** in my "pack" and they all dang well know it.
Get your dog alone and flip him onto his back (don't hurt him) and hold him there for about 10 seconds. Do this at random times and places during the day holding him there for 1-30 seconds. If your dog agresses against you grab him firmly by the scruff of the neck with one hand on either side, give him a little shake (don't hurt him) and in your best growly voice tell him no.
Good luck!

i have 2 staffies and my youngest became a problem at around 11 months old. i had him castrated as he started to become dominent toward the other male staff we had he is 10. he also became dominent towards us by doing his own thing he wouldnt listen to us, wouldnt come when called, jumped up on people when they visited and was over the top, pulled on the leash constently so i had no control over him, became aggressive towards other dogs when walked, and constently chewed items that he knew where out of bounds. he knew he was doing wrong but expected a telling off when we entered the house but still carried on doing wrong. so we paid a behaviourist to teach us how to deal with these situations. levi our dog was so well behaved when the behaviourist was teaching but when she left would still not listen to us. its taken roughly 5 months of hard work and training for him to believe that we mean business but hes gradually getting there its so hard but we want whats best for both of us. keep at your training youre dog will eventually respond to you being top dog and give up it may be hard depending on how stubborn you dog is but NEVER give up and your results will be worthwhile. i work in a dog rehoming centre and my dog has been by far the most demanding.

Ignore your dog when you walk into the house.
Dont let him sleep in your bed or let him sleep acroos you when sitting on the sofa.He sits, lies on the floor.
When feeding him have some nice biscuits to hand. Eat a biscuit make sure he's watching when finished your biscuit then put his bowl down.
Head dog eats first.Best of luck

Ha, you have to show him who's boss. Look at him sternly and give him a command. Make sure you look straight at him, If he ignores you, tell him again. If the command was sit, gentle push his backside down so he is in the sitting position. If he sees you mean it and are not going to give in to him, he will soon start being obedient. If you take him for a walk on his lead and he keeps pulling, pull the lead back and say heal. Once he realises you mean what you say he will start to be good. Hope you have success.

HI, IF YOUR DOG DOES IT FOR SOMEONE ELSE THATS A GOOD START, AT LEAST YOU NO HE CAN DO IT. I EXPECT YOU NOTICE THE WAY THE TRAINER DID IT, YOU JUST NEED TO COPY IT. HE OBVIOUSLY THINKS HE IS IN CHARGE AND NOT YOU. YOU NEED TO BE A BIT MORE STRICKED ON HIM AND WHEN YOU SAY NO, HE MUST NO THAT IS WHAT YOU MEAN. HAVE YOU TRIED WATCHING CHANNEL 4, ITS ME OR THE DOG, I THINK THAT MAY SHOW YOU SOME IDEAS ON TRAINING HIM GGO DLUCK

Get yourself some training on how to handle your dog. Its important to establish yourself as the Alpha male and not your dog - if you dont you will never be able to fully trust him xx
