I'm dying my friends hair on sunday and i need a strategy. Her roots are dark brown and the rest is a more red/brown. I was gonna go for a deep brown with a red tint, now do i have to do the ends first and then the roots or how does that go?!

I am a guy and do this for women friends. Just be sure to buy a good quality Dye and follow the directions. I have used some from Dollar General with good results when the colors are close. If, it your first time, you may not want to try any dramatic changes until you get the feel of this. The big problem many have is knowing the time to leave it on. Ask a few women around when you buy the dye and ask if they used the one you want and any suggestions they have. I always do this when using a new brand and have always got good advise.

you need to know how her hair is, is it healthy? are you changing the color totally? are you tinting or bleaching, what color are you going for? all that matters, when considering hair coloring. if you are coloring the hair the same color as the bottom, or something similar, you need to do the roots first starting in front. working your way to the back, then work to the ends. it all depends how her ends look. sometimes you need to process all the hair except the ends. Then do the ends very last, and only for a short time. if the ends are supper dry and poris, the ends will grab the color darker. which is cool, but only if your going punk. If in question, just grab the box color, and go for it, never mind the roots, ends, middle. Time it. and there you go.
