I was a named driver on my parents car. I was involve in an accident in march and the claim is still be disputed. Neither me or the other driver are accepting responsability for the accident. I had no damage to my car but the other car had £700 worth. I am now looking to get my own insurance. Do i have to say i have been involved in an accident if it was on my parents policy? The claim still has not been settled.

yes you have, at the start of policy, you and the insurer must show up most good faith and disclose everything, otherwise this could lead to you being cancelled for non dis closer of information, the fact that you were the driver involved also means you must declare this, if it was one of the other drivers then you would have have to disclose this, plus too with this claim being open means your insurance premiums will not be realistic as each company is very negative when it comes to open claims, its best to get it settled quicker this means that your insurance will at least be accurate

Yes you do. I work for a large motor insurer in the claims department and we have thrown out SO many claims because we have found people have lied about previous accidents to get cheaper insurance.

Out of interest, why is your claim being disputed? Contact me if you want some free advice!

The accident will still show up on your motor vehicle report so you should tell your agent. Be sure and take a copy of the police report with you and also take a declarations page from your parents insurance company showing that you had insurance to cover the accident and take proof that you are still listed on their policy as well.

If you answer "no" and they issue you a policy, and then you have an accident and they find out that you lied, they can deny your claim for fraudulently applying for the insurance.
