It is NOT in "msconfig"... it is in administrative tools->services

Wake up all ,The question is Windows Messenger .
Nothing to do with MSN messenger
Navigate to Start/Control Panel/Administative Tools/Services/
Then scroll down to Messenger service click twice and disable it
There gone for ever.

yes, you should try uninstalling it from your window's and then re installing it to copy missing files that preventing it from not starting up, so as when you reinstalling, log on to your window messenger and uncheck run on startup box. and after the click apply button then ok
and the log out of it.
yes you can make changes to it from your help and support section if you using XP version. you can search activities at startup and then uncheck applications that run automatically on window startup.

yeah its a pain in the butt, if you dont use it, you can do the following to "remove it" windows style.
1. Open control panel.
2. go to add/remove programs
3. click on the add/remove windows components (it will be a icon on the left).
4. A new window will pop up scroll down until you see windows messenger and un-check it and press next. presto!
Oh yeah dont use msconfig, it will piss off your computer. You get a message on start up that says it was modified.

Yes,the surest way of this is to go to start menu/run/ and type"msconfig" and press"enter".The msconfig dialog box opens up.On the tab titled"startup",uncheck the box next to the entry"windows messenger".Reboot.It won't come back.

Did you go to Start, Control Panel, Task Bar and Start Menu, and remove it from the start up programs. Just highlight it and click remove.

in your personal settings menu uncheck 'start automatically'
this way you dont have to completely uninstall it
