A lot of them have problems with their metabolism-you don't criticise diabetics yet they are suffering from a chemical imbalance like many obese people.

You question makes some interesting thought...I agree with you to some extent.
The gravity of sin is clear here.
KILLING yourself and taking drugs is deliberate.
Obese people...
Some have a problem in their make up when born.
Thyroid condition.
and nervous problem that makes them eat...
besides, eating is a natural habit.
but must be controlled overeating in some cases are abusing their bodies, but the sin is not the same as Killing and deliberate drug taking.
Peace.....

Is every person who is fat, that way because they eat a lot of food?
Please try not to generalise Peace, some people have medical conditions, through no fault of their own.
Their are a lot of different factors why some people are a little on the heavy side
People do put on weight because they are on drugs (Medicinal), so their are other factors.
I suspect that you have never had a issue with your weight, so this is why you think that you can make such a 'sweeping statement!!

All of mankind (men and women) are afflicted with sin nature.

Most of us have more than one or two weaknessess. Some of our weaknessess are easily hidden from other humans, other weaknessess are very visable to other humans.

I am very thin, and I have been and will probably again be guilty of gluttony. Thanksgiving is coming up quickly. Just because my body did not "show" my gluttony makes me no less guilty of that sin.

So, my answer to you is that all of us are sinful, even the one who tells another that they are sinful is guilty of sin themselves. Take a look into the mirror. Ask God to help you remove the log from your own eye, so that someday you can help another remove the speck from their own.

It is not about the particular sin, its about your relationship with God and your reaction to your own sin, not anothers.

Yes, gluttony is one of the seven deadly sins, as pointed out in an earlier answer.

Sh*t. Better lose a few pounds in case the Christians are right!

I'll feel stupid enough when St Peter sticks me in with all the other atheists. It would be SOOOO embarrassing to be put with the FAT atheists.

Where's that Rosemary Conley book I used to have..........

If a person is over weight because of overeating, then he is guilty of the sin of gluttony. Proverbs 23:2 and put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony.
Proverbs 28:7 He who keeps the law is a discerning son, but a companion of gluttons disgraces his father.

My sister is obese. She suffers from a disorder that gives her an overabundance of testosterone and makes her metabolism low. She eats carefully (she's on a diabetic diet) She does aerobic and anaerobic exercises everyday and is STILL obese.

Is she still sinful? Before you take the speck out of her eye, perhaps you should see the plank of intolerance and hatred in yours.

gluttony= sin. also God did say take care of your bodies as they are a gift from him, and though not specifically mentioned pretty sure obesity (through gluten or lack of exercise) would fall into this category.
