to restore (and preserve) an original antique oil painting?

Just slight, random, dry-crack lines appearing on an original oil painting from 1917. How or what do I use to restore and protect it ?

Anything you touch the surface with - whether it's varnish, soap and water, whatever - will go through the cracks and into/onto the support or canvas and creep under the painting, making the cracks much, much worse. Have it restored by a professional please!
