When Jehovah’s Witnesses in the United States purchased the Stanley Theater in Jersey City, New Jersey, the building was on the state’s register of historic places. Although the theater was in a deplorable state of disrepair, it had excellent potential for use as an Assembly Hall. Yet, when the Witnesses wanted to do needed repair work, city officials refused permits. The mayor did not want Jehovah’s Witnesses in that area; he had other plans for the property. Court action was needed in order to restrain officials from the unlawful use of their authority. The court ruled in favor of the Witnesses. Soon after that, local residents voted the mayor out of office. Work on the hall moved ahead quickly. The result was a beautiful Assembly Hall that seated over 4,000. It is a place that businessmen and residents of the city alike are proud of.

I remember them well.I was about 30 at the time.We had brochures that were to be handed out to every householder .The idea was one a week then do the territory over the next week with the new one until all the area was saturated with these"teaching tools" repeatedlyThey were the "trumpets"of God spoken of in Revelations. The final trumpet was to be put in every door we were not to speak to the householder with this one .To insure this we did it at night after dark and we just folded them and sliped them in every door in our teritory. The last trumpet sounded was a sign the Armegeddon was fast aproaching. The broucher was a seathing denounciation of false religion and a warning to Get Out of her. Many witnesses sold their homes and went preaching where "the need was great" left their secure jobs and homes and families .Not because they misunderstood anything but because of the pep talks and what they were lead to believe.or should I reword that mislead to believe. We were acting in faith,we were following the FDS and we were assured that once that last trumpet was sounded that was going to be it.We were working around the clock in order to get this done and climbing buildings(apartments) to the top floor and putting people on every floor so that we would get it done before we were kicked out.We jumped over to the next building and entered in the fire escape window and would do the same thing.Believe me I would never have done this with my children if we did not have pep talks and I thought that all these people would die if I didn't get out there with God's trumpets.Hopefully some would listen and be saved. We did get a new family at this time a woman and her 4 children to study and be baptized. But after all that ,that was it for our whole effort and congregation activity during that period of time.I wonder if she is still a witness today and if her children and her are well. Edit I just read some of the things that the witnesses wrote here. They have a really really bad memory OR they slept through all the meetings.Don't any remember the "kingdon service "telling us the end was a matter of months maybe days away. The trumpets must be loud and clear.Come on folks sometimes I don't like what Olin says or how he says it but truth from any source is still truth. If you don't want to answer fine but you know you know.No one that was breathing and not comatose could have missed it. Edit Angelmusic1914 You planned your pregnancy for Sept 1975? Well no one in our congregation was pregnant because it was"Woe to the pregnant woman "days upon us Please !!! I am usually impressed with your sincerity and honesty. But if you missed this big thing ,you had to have been inactive or haveing morning sickness all day!!! Your comment still doesn't address the 1975 BIG DEAL .I'm trying to give you the benifit of doubt here. You will loose credibility with many saying that you just used the spirit of a sound mind .That means everyone who was following the FDS leadings and believed this was the final warning and gave it their all were NOT sound in mind.!!! I know some beautiful kind and lovely people who quit jobs and sold beautiful homes and died poor and only did their best when they thought they heard the final trumpet. You don't remember the final trumpet either? Guess I had dementia at 30.I really don't know what to say anymore if you won't admit that this was ,then you just will join the rest who close there eyes and ears to what they know is truth and ignore reality and trade it for fiction.Sorry ,kinda liked you.

Jehovah's Witnesses prefer that anyone interested visit the historic, beautifully restored Stanley Theater in person. It was the tenth-largest theater of its kind ever built. Currently, it is second only to Radio City Music Hall (in Manhattan, across the Hudson River).

Free guided tours are offered during normal business hours from Monday through Friday, including holidays. Souvenir postcards are available at the Stanley (also without charge), and occasionally complimentary light refreshments are offered. While tour guides are all Jehovah's Witnesses, the tour is completely secular in nature. Religious questions are generally addressed at the conclusion of the formal tour.
