I am going to El Salvador in January, and I am a Diet Coke addict and I am not positive I can get Diet Coke there....and if I can...it probably won't taste the same. So I would like to bring my own with me....either in cans or bottles. But I want to make sure that neither bottle or can will explode if I put it in my checked baggage where it is not pressurize in the cargo hold. Anyone know??

I am not planning on taking it as carry on baggage, I know that you can't take liquids in carry on....but didn't know about the checked bags.

Yes, you can check it, BUT it very well may explode from the pressurization and/or baggage handling. Carbonated drinks are bad to take on board because during the baggage loading the bags go through several machines, then onto baggage carts and driven on the tarmac, then lifted on the airplanes and pushed (sometimes slammed) into the cargo holds. The are shaken a lot and contents inside the bags can sometimes explode.
As huge as CocaCola is all over the world I wouldn't think you'd have a hard time finding it there.

checked baggage yes. carry on no. go to www.tsa.gov and that site will have all the info you need. Be safe. The can wont explode because of the pressure but the temp can sometimes freeze the contents and that causes expansion and contraction which may cause leakage. Good Luck hope this helps. Oh yeah baggage handlers are notoriously ruthless when it comes to checked bags so that might cause some damage to cans

Good chance it will explode with all the shaking, if it is not just crushed by other bags or handling. Plus the officials at customs in El Salvador may decide to confiscate it since they cannot be sure what is in it. Most countries these days will not allow you to bring in food, not certain about this one. Travel is about trying new things...leave your comfort zone at home and get ready for a taste bud adventure :-)

It will explode in your checked baggage. I suggest you don't pack it. For sure, El Salvador has a supply of Diet Coke.

1 passport with visa if required 2 mp3 player or ipod 3 I normally take sleeping tablets because I have 2 fligths of 10 hours one after the other 4 toothbrush (hopefully the airline would supply you with toothpaste!! :) 5 something to read 6 a jacket 7 copies of your passport and fligth ticket and visa 8 chargers for your electronics (in case your luggage gets lost, it won't be difficult to have it all replaced) 9 all your jewelery in hand luggage 10 Face/hand wipes Unfortunately due to new hand luggage restrictions you are very limited but it all depends on whether your flight is international or domestic. Make sure you check out the web site for the airline you are using it can save you from having to unpack toiletries and so forth at the airport.

I wouldn't suggest it, there's a lot of shaking up of the luggage on planes. It may cause them to be dangerous to open... if they even make it in once piece to your destination... they might just explode in yourbag. I think most places have coke, they've taken over the world. Just go and take a chance.

You'll want to double check with the airline. The last time I checked on Southwest (obviously, you aren't using them since they are only in the US) You could have liquids in your checked luggage, but it needed to be in ziploc bags and well-padded.
Your airline might have this information on their website - or you could see if a friend would mail this down to you - that might be easier.
Best of luck!

Have been living in a cave? Have you not heard about bans on liquids? Besides, Coke is everywhere in the world. They even have open a factory in Afghanistan. Leave the cans home......

Pretty sure you can't take it on board with you - what with new restrictions and all.
