I have an upcoming hearing regarding my 3 young children, after a long (almost 2 year) battle with my alcoholic ex-husband, we are moving forward with termination his parental rights. After SO many hearings we have reached the end of the road with this and even though we have been to court too many times to count I am wondering what the termination hearing will be like, other than all the testimony I have to give as to why he is an unfit father etc. What will the cross examination be like? If you have been through this before please let me know what I might expect. Thanks!

PS I realize this is a very short explanation for a very long drawn out issue....there are way too many details to put out here.

I went through it for my kids, all I can tell you its gonna be a long day in court, and lots of lies as well, all I can suggest is to be honest and open, the cross examination is gonna try and make you look like an unfit mom as well make him look like he has not always been drinking since he was with you, best of luck, and remember 90% of the time the judge rules in the mothers favor, so just make sure your honest thats all I can say, and the judge will see through the lies and the alchol as well.

Well, when I was 14, 15? My mom's rights were terminated. She didnt even show for court, she signed the papers at some point in time and boom it was very quick.
shitty for me, my mom came around and got her stuff together, yet I wasnt allowed to talk to her until I was 18 yrs old.
and with you terminating his rights, say buh bye to child support and any sort of responisbility on his part. If he recovers and you decide hey, he's working now and should help contribute again. he wont have to.

It won't be an easy thing to do. You will have to prove that the children are in danger and you will be giving up child support if you win in court. Have you stopped to think about the children's grandparents?????????? Don't they have right's too? It's not just their Father you will be taking these children away from!

I have never been to one of these hearings, but, I would suspect, if your husband has a lawyer and wants to argue it, anything the two of you have ever been through will be drudged up. And it's possible he might even make things up. I am sorry you and your children are going through such a thing.
