A hot compression helps in stye.

This is how you should do it:
Boil some water in a beaker for about 7 to 10 mins. Then allow it to cool till its 'luke warm'.
Take some cotton balls(sterelized if possible).
dip a cotton ball and clean the lid margins. throw away the used cotton ball and take another one. again dip it in warm water and gently put it on the stye.
keep applying for about 10-15 mins.
dont forget to change the cotton frequently to avoid infection.
DO NOT USE anything that is not sterile or clean (e.g., a gold ring)
DO NOT apply eye make up till the stye is subsided.
wear a protective goggle when you are out.
DO NOT touch the stye as this may transfer the bacteria from your hands to the infected site and the stye may flur up.

epson salt dissolved in warm water. Put a wash cloth in the mixture, wring it out, and hold it on your closed eye for a few minutes. Repeat a few times a day. It helps some.
