Naturally, I have dark ashy brown hair. Recently, about two months ago I died my hair with henna and it turned out neon scarlet-orange. I liked it for a while, and I knew it would wash out in a month or so, but now it is nearly three months since I coloured it and it is not fading!!! The roots are growing out in my hair and it looks like I am balding - you know. Is there any homemade cure or colour that I could make and use to get my hair back to the dark ash-brown it used to be? Please help!

In one of the Narnia books series, I think it is "The Last Battle", the characters put walnut juice on their hair to darken it. Perhaps you could put something like that on your roots. Or spend the cash and go to a hair salon for advice.

Here's your mistake: Henna IS a chemical. And all "chemicals" are actually derived at some point from nature.

You will not be able to correct your color without putting some form of chemical on it. Other people are suggesting you try some OTHER form of henna...the same thing that destroyed your hair in the first place. That will certainly change the color, but again, is still damaging. I never understand why people don't get this: Just because something is "natural" doesn't mean it's good for you. Sulfur is natural. Heroin is natural. Additionally, just because something's been tweaked by science or manufactured, that doesn't mean it's BAD for you.

The only solution is to start using heavy conditioner on your hair to smooth it out and start preventing hair loss due to the chemical damage you've already caused your hair. Then you nee to either get to a proper salon for help or go to the drug store and buy whatever hair color you choose to cover up the mess. Though there's not really any difference in the hair color you get at the drug store and the stuff they will use in a salon, I still think a salon is a better idea for you because they can help match the color you want and figure out which tones to use to best cover up the mess you've made.

I posted this is your other question, because you posted this question twice. But I wanted to add this important point (First of all this is HOMEMADE information) henna is not a chemical like chemical dye is. So if you go to the organic store, is there no benefit to going there? Aren't you going there to buy pesticide free products and naturally grown things? Well henna is the same. If you buy pre-boxed henna powder it will usually have some type of metallic salts in it or preservaties (same goes for henna paste on the shelf). Go to a reliable suplier who sells BODY ART quality henna powder, you will see that the henna is pure and imported directly from the supplier. They don't add anything into. Pure dried henna leave are ground and finely sifted.
Henna is NATURAL, it is not a chemical dye.

Anyhow though, yes henna does not just come out of your hair like it fades away on your skin. Henna on hair and nails needs to grow out. I am a professional henna artist, and have also been doing henna and hair for at least 10 yrs now.
First what color was your hair to begin with? If it was light that is why it came out SO BRIGHT orange. Sorry about that. But you can still use henna and be happy with your color, you just have to get the rigth balance.

When you don't want henna to be so BRIGHT use indigo, or coffee, or even amla powder will help tones it down (actually yoghurt too). So either you dye your hair with some chemical dyes which could damage your hair as well, or just try out the henna with some indigo mixed into it and you will get the brown tones you want.

Do you want brown tones? What color would you be happy with? If you want black, since you have already henna'ed your hair use indigo alone and that will give you black hair or at least dark brown.
So since you want the healthiest way to do this DO NOT use those chemicals. This is a home made cure !! Henna and Indigo will give you that dark brown you want.

Contact me directly if I can help out.

Tough one if you dont want to use chemicals...

Do you have a local hippy/goth shop? Cos they do the natural henna dyes but in different colours - you could try on of those? My mate often uses the black or the dark brown ones and and they look really good. Just a thought. Good luck.

I personally don't really know, but the only thing i think you could do is actually dye it back to it's natural co lour. But definitely go to a Beautician. don't try doing it yourself, because you could end up making it worse. Let your beautician do it!
