bring a bachelor you want something easy to keep clean and that doesnt show dirt, so very dark colours for flooring ie black or grey, for the walls go for a neutral colour in a washable vinly paint, beige shades would be best you can use the match pots to make your own tones of beige when mixing them with a base colour, in the kitchen cover what surfaces you can use chopping boards etc not the work surfaces, they can be cleaned more quickly and easily, and get yourself a small dishwasher, nothing worse than a young lady seeing a sink full of old dishes unwashed. have fun in your new home, the key is, if you see a little job that needs doing, do it before it mounts up into a large job.

Depends on how long you want to stay. If you plan to move soon, and it is your property, then paint it in neutral colours as that is likely to ensure it sells most quickly (cream, magnolia, beige etc) If it belongs to a landlord you better check before you paint it at all.
If it yours and you plan to stay a few years, then choose the colours you like. Dark colours will make a room look smaller, but maybe more cosy? If you have a lot of clutter, maybe you better stick to neutral anyway.

I'd go for a khaki color. Warm, goes well with almost anything furiture-wise.
