It is both I am a recovering Alcoholic sober 5 years and
it is passed through the genes of a family too
some may be effected while others never are .
It also sometimes skips a generation .

I think that it is a combination of both. Most scientists believe that there are certain genes that predispose you to becoming an alcoholic - and also, on the other hand, most also agree that no one becomes an alcoholic without experiencing excessive drinking at least once.

This cannot be an "Either Or" question. There are many different factors on why alcoholics become that way. It is not one or the other. It is both, and then some.

It's both. People who are alcoholics tend to come from families with sugar metabolism problems, but there is also a personality component.

It can be a combination of both.
Some people may be pre-determined to have a dependancy on alcohol but require certain environmental cues to trigger alcoholism.
Others may solely be affected by their environment.

environmental u cant be a drunk from your family drinking it you have your own thoughts /mind people my god it is NOT passed in the genes my mother drank like a fish when she was preggo with me and the only time i ever drink is on rare occasions like new years or sometimes birthday parties!!!!!1it makes me feel sick to drink

both. i read a long time ago about alcohloism being proven hereditary. i believe enviroment plays a big role too though
