Ever try to get a dog to eat something that it didn't want to eat?
Ever see a dog with it's head inside of a box sniffing?
Sure dogs can walk backwards,they do it every time you put something in it's food bowl that they find repulsive. . .food scraps etc.
Any time a dog sticks it's head into a box or paper sack,they have to walk backwards to get it's head out of the box or sack that they felt the need to investigate.
Walk backwards as in going down stairs,walking on a leash etc?
Sure they could do it but it is in their nature to walk forwards so to investigate their surroundings upon approaching it.
Walk backwards as a normal way of walking? Not usually.
Get them to walk sideways. . . . Now that would be a trick.

Absolutely. I have 2 Siberian Huskies and when I'm in the kitchen doing something, sometimes one or both of my dogs will sneak into the kitchen (they have been trained to stay out of the kitchen). When I tell them "out of the kitchen" instead of turning around and walking out, they will (back-up) walk backwards just far enough to get to the edge of the kitchen and then stop and sit down. I think they walk backwards instead of turning around because they don't want to miss anything by taking their eyes off of whatever it is I'm doing (usually something with food) because they are both very nosy.

Yes it can some can even run backwards depending on type of dog.

My dog walk fowards and backwards and does just about anything I can do. He even sits on his behind woth his legs sprawled out in front of him and watched Tv...I think he believes he is a human. Dogs are very smart. Do not underestimate them. They can do almost anything.

Yup. I just made my dog do it. He also does it when he's in a tight spot and the only way out is to back up.
