I believe the boxer with the greatest number of wins was Sugar Ray Robinson. Out of 202 professional fights, he won 175 of those fights. 108 of those fights came by knockout. He died in 1989.

SRR did have one heck of a record but not the "greatest number" of wins.
-Harry Greb, who was a Middleweight Champion and regarded by a great deal of sports writers as one of the all-time greatest at 160lbs had 259 wins.
-A guy by the name of Young Stribling won 256 fights in a 12 yr career (Heavyweight).
