Years ago I was working on an infectious diseases ward and I met a lady who had an ulcer on her leg which was about 6 x 2 inches. It was my first placement as a student nurse so I was quite surprised when she told me that it had been caused by an insect bite. She also told me that she had been ill for a few days, with a high fever and confusion before the doctors took her seriously and sent her for tests. By this time a small ulcer had developed, which then grew rapidly. The doctors told her if she had waited a few more hours she could have lost her leg or her life, as she had a flesh eating infection, caused by bacteria in the bite.
So yes it may be due to the bite and I would advise your friend to seek medical attention, particularly if she has any other symptons such as fever.
I hope your friend gets better soon, Mel.

A brown recluse has a bite that will kill and eat away at the skin. It may look ulcer like. These are very serious bites and she should go to the doctor to make sure that it is not a brown recluse. It could cost her her leg if she does not. No joke.

Ahaaaa, this is a sure sign of Griebaturism, very rare, but I have come upon it before, not here in England but while touring the Keys in Florida, one of the islands is called Marathon, there they have a family who are called the Griebats, this family have been inbreeding for close to three centuries, in some severe cases namely one in France shortly after the first world war, they hung Herbert Montaray Griebats, thinking him a monkey, sounds crazy I know. The condition of Griebaturism manifests itself by way of covering either parts or in rare cases all of the body with excess hair. I would suggest not considering building a family as the horror of bearing a chimp like child to be too much to bear. Lots of luck to you

I dont think a bite could cause an ulcer. Something else is going on and should see a dr as soon as possible.

She needs to see a doctor asap. Sounds like she might have been bitten by a brown recluse spider. Their vemon causes the flesh to rot from around the bite. Sometimes the only way to stop flesh rot is surgery to remove the dead flesh and some healthy flesh to keep the vemon from spreading. DOCTOR ASAP

I would advise her to go and see her doctor since the bite has left such a large wound and especially since she isn't for sure what bit her. Furthermore, the wound may become infected if she doesn't take proper care of it, and she made need antibiotics. The following link has information about brown recluse spider bites and the wounds that they make. I hope that this isn't what has happened to her.

Wonder if it's a cold sore or impetigo by the description. Judging by the size, it could be impetigo which will continue to spread & is very contagious. Needs a visit to a GP or homoeopath.
