The Bible says that doing good isn't the criterion for getting to heaven. anyone who desires and strives for absolute purity could make it. But the biblical criterion is recognising that, perhaps despite the fact that we may think we've lived good lives, we're still sinners in need of a saviour, and so we should accept that Jesus Christ allowed himself to be killed on a cross so he could take the punishment for our sins, and we should turn away from everything we know to be wrongdoing. I am thankful that getting to heaven doesn't depend on how good we've been. If the criterion for getting to heaven was being good, then people who made a sincere commitment to Christ not long before they died after having lived immoral lives would find themselves going to hell despite their latter commitment to follow him and turn away from their sins, because the number of years they had spent sinning would far exceed the amount of time they later spent doing good. Or if they'd done one thing that was very bad but then spent years regretting it, it might still outweigh all the good they'd done and be enough to get them sent to hell, particularly since no one can be entirely good and everyone does things that aren't good throughout their lives. But the love of Jesus extends to people who've spent years doing evil things, if they'll only sincerely accept him and turn away from them.

Nobody is "good" enough to get into heaven. The only reason we get there is because of God's grace, not because we are "good." Eph 2:8 "God saved you by his special favor when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the GOOD things we have done, so non of us can boast about it."
The only person who gets the trophy is Jesus!!!

All the time! I am a Christian but am not living the way I should be all the time. I don't understand how someone who struggles and is depressed like me could get into heaven.

i feel that way all the time. no one is "good enough" to get into heaven. we will get into heaven only on our belief in the saving grace of Christ, our saviour. so if you feel guilty about something , just ask Christ to come into your heart and save you and before you get through asking Him, he will already have done it. it's just that simple and that quick. if you would like to ask me a question, please email me and i will be glad to help you find answers to anything you would like to know. but don't think salvation is a complicated thing. God made it so the entire world can understand how to be saved.

The bad thing about a conscience is that it doesn't keep you from doing what you know is wrong, it keeps you from just forgetting about what you did. Most people with a conscience will worry about being good enough. In many 'religions' it's really hard, if not impossible. You have to find your path and belief. I believe in Jesus and the gift of salvation, but I don't see my typing a book about why because that comes off as pushy and arrogant. There are many sources and maybe investigate it and what other beliefs offer and ask of you. God bless and help you in your search!

No, I have never concerned myself with whether or not I get into heaven. A person should behave as best they can without regard to rewards for that behavior.

I have never really understood how people can believe that they can do any evil behavior they want and still get into heaven, because they said a bunch of magic words, rubbed a statue of Buddha, or went to confession once a week.

Doing evil is reflected in the person's soul. If a person repeatedly does evil after praying for forgiveness, then do you really think that God can not recognize that the person is not sincere?

I would say everyone at some point believes they are not good enough to get into Heaven. Doubts are part of human nature. My father told me of a man (sorry I can't remember his name but he was well known) who was known to be an atheist. This man, on his death bed, said a prayer I would like to share with you. I quote, "Oh God, if there is a God, forgive me of my sins, if I have sinned, and save me from Hell, if there is a Hell, and allow me to enter into Heaven, if there is a Heaven."

You see, even an atheist who does not believe in God has doubts. I also believe even the Pope and Mother Theresa had some doubts at one point of another. We can not deny human nature. That is why God asks us to have faith.

I do not dismiss your concerns, I only want to help you to understand that your doubts are only human and all of us worry about our chances of going to Heaven.

My dad told me this, "It would be better for you to have faith in your religious belief and at least give yourself a chance of going to Heaven than it would be to have no faith and be lost because you refused to believe."

I hope this helped.

I not only feel I am not good enough but I also beleive I am not good enough. Jesus was good enough to go to heaven and he offered to take me with him and I accepted.

God Bless

of course. coz we are all not good enough to get into heaven;at least not in this humanistic state of being that we are in; this sinful nature that without the gift of salvation we stay the heck out. but my question is this, we are born of a sinful nature right? so where do the kids who die go? coz they don't accept salvation-heck they don't even know whats going on-or do they? we don't know talk to God about it. maybe he can shed some light on it.

Heaven is such a limited and limiting concept. We are all spirit now and forever. All spirit moves from a material vibration into a spirit vibration. With this, we see all will find their own place on death. It is time to open the mind to 'more' so that these concepts can be washed away with the tides of time.
