Tell her what you feel. Nothing else. And remember she may make mistakes, and later on not make the same ones when the stakes are much higher.

Advise her to respect her mother's wishes, but still be there to talk to her about her feelings...don't encourage her to disobey...

However, you might talk to her mom and see what the reasons are...if she had a b/f for 2 yrs, why is this guy unacceptable? It may help you in talking to your niece if you knew why mom wasn't keen on this particular boy...

...but maybe you could also help mom see that disallowing her to date at all, isn't the way to go...more teen girls end up pregnant or worse because they snuck around to rebel against their parents desires re: dating...I have a girlfriend with a 16 yr old son who is the product of "I forbid you to see that boy"...

Hopefully your niece won't be as foolish as my girlfriend was...she admits today the ONLY reason she got with her son's father, was because her parents forbid it...the pregnancy was an "oops" but she took responsibility for it and has been a mother since age 18...

I don't think this girls mom would want that for her...

she should learn from her past relationship.. experience is the best teacher. and she should listen to her mother too.
