many people hate the mainstream and have thousands of reasons for why some alternative is better. Linux has its place as a utility, but it still doesn't have the ease of use and broad vendor support for the average person to use it as a desktop. If you want to play the latest games, you have to run a windows OS. If you want to be able to just grab a printer or digital camera etc you see and know it'll work, you need a windows OS.

No matter how much 'better' the alternative software is, for the most part vendors have to support the most people for the least money. If you have the technical skills, a lot of free time, and don't mind the frustration, run linux. If you want easy, or you need a system for your grandmother etc, stick with the mainstream.

And what do you mean 'remember'. I still use DOS :)

this is all depends on personal opinion. I used firefox for quite some time because i did think it was a lot better than ie, but have now moved on and don't use either. i now use opera which is free to download, because it's just more convenient for me, i can have several tabs open within one window, and it also incorporates a transfer tab which can be used for downloading torrents.

as for the linux/microsoft question, are you crazy? microsoft all the way baby.

and of course we remember MS DOS, it's still very useful on ocasion...

This is another opin based question. Personally I feel firefox is better. It's definatly more stable than IE.

I also prefer linux to Windows for some things. Other things, I prefer the ease of windows. It all depends on you, the user and how comfortable you are with the operating systems.

Ms-DOS...I wish I could go back. Command line interface is the bomb!

MOZILLA MAY BE BETTER THAN INTERNET EXPLORER 6 BUT, WHAT ABOUT INTERNET EXPLORER 7 BETA.

BEST THING I HAVE EVER TRIED IS INTERNET EXPLORER 7 BETA AND IT HAS GOT MORE SECURITY PROTECTION THAN MOZILLA FIRE FOX.

EXAMPLES: ADD ONS, POP UP BLOCKER.

MOZILLA GOT LAST MILLENIUM'S POP UP BLOCKER WHICH IS NOT ALLOWING YOU TO SEE IMPORTANT PAGES.

ADD ONS !!! IE 7 BETA GOT MORE NEW AND LATEST PLUG INS THAT MICROSOFT CREATES, AND SPEED BETWEEN THE MOZILLA AND IE 7 BETA, TELL YOU WHAT, IT DEPENDS ON CONNECTION YOU GOT.

MICROSOFT VS LINUX

IF YOU ARE SOME TYPE OF 3D MAKER OR HACKER YOU BETTER INSTALL LINUX AND FORGET ABOUT PROTECTION. WHERE IS THE NORMAL ANTI VIRUS THAT RUNS ON LINUX ? WHAT ABOUT WORMS ? TROJANS ? THE WORTH THING THAT HAPPENS TO USER IS TO LOSE ALL FILES AND REINSTALL OPERATING SYSTEM, I DON'T THING YOU WANT THIS !!!

I am using Firefox now, and my daughter uses I.E.
The new versions of Linux is now so close to Microsoft Windows, there is very little to separate them, except most Linux software is FREE.
Yep I used MS DOS.
