There are theories that if you starve yourself for a period, you body becomes very efficient at using whatever calories it has available. The theory goes that when you start feeding the body regular quantities of food, its still in starvation mode, so it uses what you give it very efficiently and stores any leftovers as fat.

It's true, if you starve yourself and go back to eating your body will want to store fat to protect itself from starving again. If you have already been doing this get help from a doctor first. You should probably adjust your diet slowly, eating healthy food and doing some moderate exercise. The low carb diet works for me. I eat protein and yes some fat, lots of fresh veggies and lay off breads and sweets. I do have some dark chocolate from time to time. I also eat fruits like strawberries, blueberries and watermelon all have low clisemic value or in other words sugar. It's really a life style not a diet. Be careful losing weight to quick.

Starving yourself is the wrong answer. By starving yourself, your metabolism will shut down, causing you to store all sugars, carbohydrates, and fats as fat. Yes, you will gain more weight when you start eating again, even if you eat the right things and exercise.
The best suggestion in this case is portion control and exercise. Rather than eating larger portions at the regular meals, eat smaller portions 5 to 6 times a day. Snack on vegetables and healthy snacks. Keep your protien intake up, and altenate each day in the other group to eat: carbohydrates, fats and sugars. This way your metabolism stays active and you don't get the cravings that might by dropping out the other categories.
By using this and including regular exercise each day, normally 30 minutes of cardio is recommended for beginners, you will lose weight as quickly as is safely possible.

if you starve yourself, when you finally do eat your body will start to store the food up for later because it will be afraid that it won't see any for a while again. So what you are really going to do is gain more fat. I suggest you just put yourself on a healthy diet, make sure you drink lots of water and eat a lot of fruits vegetables and make sure you get your protein and calcium, and you will lose weight quick enough. Starving your body is the worse possible thing you can do for losing weight.

To a point yes. If you stop eating, you starve your body, which causes your metabolism to slow to conserve energy because you're not giving it what it needs. When you start to consume food on a normal basis again, your body will not process it at a regular rate, so therefore it can cause you to gain weight much quicker. If you want to lose a little weight, diet and exercise. There is no such thing as a "quick" fix, at least not a healthy one.

If you starve yourself you lose mostly water weight and it will all come back and more. It is not a good choice and will make you sick. The best way is to eat right and exercise. Of course, we are all told that but it is true. Don't dehydrate yourself or starve yourself for vanity!

Just that your body NEEDS fuel to burn calories....if it does not get it, your body will go into "starvation mode", and think it is not going to get any fuel, and hang onto the fat for it's fuel instead. It is advised to eat small meals (5-6/day), and keep your metabolism in check, and that way, you will burn more calories than you take in if you exercised as well. It's all about balance. What you take in opposed to what you burn off. BUT, you need to take in to keep your metabolism working. Think of it this way. If you were in NY, and planned a trip to FL, and you only had 1/4 tank of gas, how far would you go??? You need to fuel up to get to where you want to be. Eat smart! Good luck!

starving your self is the worst thing to do, your body will react in a bad way and will start to keep the bad fats in your body, so when you eat agian it will store it insted of passing it through your body!
