I plan to groom it myself, and i dont plan on showing it. I just want it as a happy healthy friend, someone to share my teenage years with. I want food for her that isnt too expensiv, yet healthy at the same time.

OH MY GOD! Never feed a dog Ol'roy!!!!!!!!!!!! It is the worst food out there! There have been TONS of animals die from eating it and when my grandparents fed it to their dog he almost died! It also has traces of the chemical used to put animals to sleep with, which means they are putting animals like dogs and cats in it! I work with vets and trust me that is the Worst food you could ever feed a dog!
I suggest:
Lassie Natural Way, Nutro Natural Choice small/little bites (found at Petsmart), Nutro Natural Choice Ultra (also found at Petsmart), Royal Canin (Also found at Petsmart).. Please be SURE to stay away from Sceince Diet, Purina, Iams, Nutro Max and All grocery store brands. Also foods with corn in them are bad, and it turns their fur yellow. As far as the price of owning a small dog, it wouldn't cost much.. I own three large dogs and it costs me about $50 a month for all three, but it wouldn't cost much for a small dog. If you feed your dog Lassie Natural Way and she weighs about 10 pounds your only going to be spending $5.99 every other month on food.
I hope this helps.

As was already said, it depends on if you plan to do this yourself or consult a groomer. If the former is the plan, then it will only cost you the set up fee (purchasing brushes, scissors, etc) and some maintenance (keeping up on shampoo, etc). If you plan to use a groomer, your best bet is to phone a few in your area and ask what they charge for long-haired breeds.

In terms of your food question, I highly recommend Nutro food as the best brand out there (everyone has their own opinion), but personally I like their Ultra line which does not include any fillers or preservatives. It is quite expensive though. I personally don't think I would feed anything to my cats or dogs other than Nutro, Science Diet, Iams, Eukanuba, and in a pinch, Purina One (the "One" is important!).

Cost wise, your best bet is probably Iams but take a stroll through your local pet store and see what kind of prices they have. I do recommend shopping at a pet store though, and not a grocers. Grocery stores often carry cheap but nutritionally lacking brands.

Best of luck...

It depends on what your going to do with your dog. A show dog you may spend hundreds on shampoos, hair brushes etc just to get it ready for a show, during the time when the dog is not being shown, most people spend about $50.00 a month to keep it groomed nicely by a professional. Of course it is cheaper if you do it yourself.

hi .. it's alot cheaper to groom your own dog but you will want to bring him/her in the first time so you have the base cut in. I feed my dog Old Roy dog food from Walmart and she loves it. Don't try anything drastic to her grooming without talking to the vet and make sure your spoil her with lots of toys.
