I would recommend a Portuguese Water Dog. They are muscular, medium-sized dog. The coat varies from flat, wavy, shiny type to a thick, open curl, to a tight curl and they don't shed because they have human hair. They are a water-loving, lively but sensible, a.nd loyal dog. Affectionate and fun to be around. They are excellent with children and usually gets along with other dogs and pets without any problems.
But, their average weight is 42-55 pounds for male and 35-49 pounds for females. They live about 10-14 years.
My aunt has one named Misty Blue. Her skin is blue and she spolied rotten. But, she is as sweet as anything and she dosen't get bothered by anything.

I would definitely check into getting a Miniature Pinscher. I had one for a very long time. He was about 10 pounds, and wasn't getting any bigger. My nieces and nephews were constantly carrying him around. I have allergies and so he couldn't shed much, and if he did, the hairs were so little that they were rarely noticeable. This dog can get very attached to its owner. My dog was so attached that he followed me around, and did everything I asked. They learn very well, mine was well trained and it took little effort.

I would suggest getting a Maltese,Brussel Griffon,Mini Schnauzer ,or a Yorkie. These are non-shedding pets, with exception of the Yorkie ,who sheds very little.and very good with children and don't get too big.Hope this helps.

Yorkshire terriers are good there small but the smaller you get the more money like if you get a teacup but the yorkies are really good I have one if you treat them right they will protect you and even though there small sometimes they like to bark and stuff at bigger dogs and sometimes the male can be territorial but there really nice dogs if you know how to treat them

I would say get a teacup chihuahua. They are adorable, nice, smart, they dont shed much, and they stay under 15 lbs.

If you are willing to keep it indoors then a papillon. ther only health issues are this kneecap thing, and (rarely) deafness
they need little exercise, but they need grooming and they shed a little. also they are fine with kids, but it would be a good idea to raise it with kids (and teach the kids about respecting animals)
here are some web pages on papillons :)

and here is another helpful website, i visit it all the time :D

and here is a page on naming it

GOOD LUCK!!
