what good would "speak now or forever hold your peace" do? the couple is legally wedded, therefore, there isn't much bitter exes and partycrashers can do about it. or is this just the priest's spiel?

You still need witnesses at a civil ceremony. Those witnesses have the job of speaking up on behalf the general opinion...not necessarily their own sometimes. However, the couple is not legally married until they are pronounced husband and wife...the "speak now" part comes before that for a reason. It gives other the chance to speak up before it is made legal.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. The couple are NOT wedded yet.Not until the person performing the ceremony says "I now pronounce you man and wife".By the way;Since you've experienced a 'CIVIL'wedding, would the 'D'vorce be considered-----Un-civil?
