Confessing our sins to a priest is an unnecessary process. The priesthood was established by God in the Old Testament and was a function of the law. Forgiveness of sins during that time period required the shedding of blood, via the sacrifice of an animal. Since the death of Jesus, we are no longer under the law, but under grace and have direct access to God through prayer. The use of a priest for the confession of sins reverts to the old method of the law and diminishes the sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross. In the Bible it says that if we confess our sins, He (God) is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. No priest required...

:) The veil in the holy of holy's was torn from the top to bottom. To make a long story short you would go to a priest for spiritual guidance the same way you would a brother or sister in Christ. A priest has the legal rite to keep your confession a secret. Confession is made to GOD in the authority of Jesus Christ. If you sin against the priest then go to him and confess.
May GOD richly bless you.

You dont, get your bible out and read in psalms about how king david committed sins but regained God's favor. Jesus died as an atonement for our sins and made it so we could have a direct relationship with our Heavenly Father, what a loving provision. We are imperfect humans and I would not trust a priest, if you want to email me I could give you some more information about confessing directly to God.

Good question. Here is the answer I give as a minister.
You confess your sins to God through a minister rather than to a minister. You do this so as to also get a direct answer to any questions you may have about how to atone for any of those sins or how to avoid repeating them.
Anything I am told in confession remains between the confessor, myself and God. Under no circustances can I even be forced to reveal what I am told, ever. Although I've never had it happen a rapist or killer could confess their crimes to me and I cannot tell anyone. (I can and would seek ways to convince him/her to turn themselves into civil authorities.)

The Bible says 'confess your sins on to another' sometimes the help of talking abou t a problem with another Chrsitian helps
I do not believe you have to talk to another and can confess directly to God as in 1 John 1:9 "if we confess our sins he is faithful and righteous and will forgive our sins" but it might help to discuss a serious problem with a trusted someone else
Does it have to be a priest... I would say no

You dont have to confess to a priest in Islam. I think it makes no sense at all. Because you are a creature of God and you have to be alone with Him when confessing.
We are in the same class with all people in His eye. We just need to get closer to Him.
May God bless you.

How else can the Catholic church control you if you don't go running off to some priest every time you suffer the quiver of a doubt. It is all about keeping the masses in line so they can carry out the churches goal of out breeding all other religions by goading you into the "proper" behavior using guilt.

I don't, I confess to God, a priest can't do nothing for me. The Good Lord is the only one that can forgive your sins and He's the only one I'm going to.

The idea of 'confession' and confessing your sins to a priest are not Bible teachings. They are man made doctrines.Priests have no authority from God to be able to forgive sins. They are only imperfect humans just like we are.The only one that has authority to forgive sins is Jehovah God.We must be repentent and try to lead a godly life, otherwise our petitions will not be heard

I confess to God. I don't think we need a priest(or anyone else) to talk to God. We are all equally connected to Him.
