Desert wines are the best as their sweetness off-sets the acridity of the smoke. Ports also go well with cigars for the same reason previously mentioned.

Avoid delicate wines as their finer points will not be noticeable.

reds, like Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon, but must say a good Scotch goes much better...if you like it of course.
