He wasn´t in hell, like people believe just because the bible says in 1 Peter 3.18-20, that He went and preached to the spirits in prison. This argument is false, if you read a few lines back you will, find that it was Noah who preached in the name of Jesus, like 1 Peter 1.10-11 says, the prophets were used by the power of Christ in them.
I heard that this theory came because of the Apostles Creed and many hypotheses exist concerning the date and nature of the origin of the Apostles' Creed. It was apparently developed from what scholars have identified as "the Old Roman Symbol" of the 1st or 2nd century and influenced later by the Nicene Creed (325/381). Some historians place its origin of the Apostles' Creed as late as 5th century Gaul. The earliest known concrete historical evidence of the creed's existence as it is currently titled (Symbolum Apostolicum) is a letter of the Council of Milan (390) to Pope Siricius.
So all the believes concerning these are not biblical, so where was Christ? I believe that the question should be: Where He wasn´t? As God He is, He was in every place at the same time, His body was placed on a tomb, but His spirit, or His person, didn´t perish.

Jesus was asleep in death. That is,he was no where. He knew nothing,he felt nothing - he was dead.
Eccl.9:5 tells us "For the living are conscious that they will die but as for the dead they are conscious of nothing at all."
The Bible teaches that when we die,we go back to the ground from which we came.We have no immortal soul,or spirit that leaves the body. These are pagan teachings that have been fused in with apostate Christianity. They are not Bible teachings. When we die we remain in God's memory until the time He will resurrect all the dead.Acts.24:15:"There is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous"
This also explains why Jesus wasnt recognised after his resurrection.Because he had taken on a new body..

His body was in the tomb he had been buried in. His soul was in "death" or hades depending on the translation of the word.

The Bible does not say Christ went to hell, only to hades (in ancient Greek death and hades are the same word which means "grave.") On the third day he arose from the grave to walk again, he told several of his followers to meet him (a few days later.) They did not believe it was him at first until he showed them his hands and feet. After this he was with them for 40 more days and then was ascended to heaven.

Read the New International Version of the Bible for the best modern English translation. It should be available at your local library. The first 5 books of the New Testament will answer most of your questions best.

Peter said 'He preached to spirits'
Jesus probably preached victory to the Old Testament saints or possibly judgement to the fallen angels

I do not believe he either no longer existed as JW would claim then since Jesus said "tear down this body and in three days I will raise it again " in John 2, In a sense Jesus raised himself, human enough to die and divine enough to raise himself.

I do not believe Jesus suffered in hell even if he went there since the BIble outlined his sufferings before and after and it never includes suffering in hell. Additionally Jesus said 'it is finished' on the cross and atonement was complete

He was dead and in the grave. On the 3rd day, God the Father raised him from the dead. Gal.1:1

Eccl. tells us that when a person is dead, he is "conscious of nothing at all."

The Apostles Creed states that He descended into Hell. Basically that is true. But the complete answer is that He was in Paradise, Preaching to the "spirits in Prison". Hell was separated into two compartments, the Paradise was for the Righteous Dead from before Christ, the other compartment was the place of the damned. When He arose, "He took captivity captive."
