The same thing it does for white skin, sunscreen protects our skin from the sun UV rays. Dark skin people already have a shield against the sun because our skin doesn't absorbed the UV like the lighter skin people but we still can get skin cancer.

Darker skin does provide some protection from the sun's UV rays, but don't count on it alone. Skin cancer is less common, but can be more deadly, in those with darker skin. apply a sunscreen with an SPF 15 to 30. And reapply sun protection often while you're in direct sunlight.

Whether you have light skin or brown skin is not the issue...skin is skin...and it can be damaged by the rays of the sun. You have to protect it. Melanoma is one of the most dangerous forms of cancer, and on dark skinned people, it is very hard to detect, that is why it is so important to use sunscreen and be checked by a Derm at least once a year.

No offence but since you already have black skin, why would you need to use a sunscreen?
