I;'m not sure, but I think it needs to be an egress window. If you go to a window supplier (i.e. menards, lowes, etc.) they can tell you. The window has to be large enough for a person to climb out in case of fire.

with the window completely open..u must have a clear opening of 22 x 24 inches....we always install nothing smaller than a 3'0" x 4'6" in all bedrooms......

You must be able to have at least a 4 foot opening so someone could fit through it in case of emergency.
