Yes, I know...stupid is the only word to describe me since I carried everything with me. Let's move on...so now what do I do? I called all my credit cards, but it's a long weekend and everything else is closed, driver's license, ss administration, voter's registration, etc. Even the big 3 (equifax, experian and transuniion) are closed. What can I do to protect myself?

You need to do the following:

1) Visit the link below for info on identity theft.

2) Contact the police and file a report. If they say they can't/won't do it, then demand that they give you an "incident" report. Many police agencies still are not on the same page about identity theft issues and don't want to mess with investigating them. But without some sort of police report you are not going to get very far.

3) Follow Annies advice and start contacting whatever banks/credit card companies you can now. Look up your old credit card statements.

4) Contact ONE of the 3 credit bureaus and report identity theft. They will place an identity theft flag on your report. (Calling one will notify all 3 of them, so you don't need to do it).

That's about all you can do to protect against charges to your card. Now you need to work on getting new drivers license and SS card.

Tell the police. They'll be able to assist and give you an incident number.
You should call your bank and tell them. They must have a 24/7 service where you can put a stop to all your cards. If you have online banking then check for any movements of cash you don't recognize. Bank has to deal with it. And last but not least, don't panic. What's happened has happened. Priority now is minimizing any damage.

report it to the police, so that why if charges are made on your account you have a police record. The banks can't fault you if you show proof of your stolen items. Try to call the 1800 numbers on your card and see if you can cancel your accounts, but for future reference make sure you don't care all of your identify w/ you!! Good-Luck
