The US Army's Active Component has a total of 39 combat brigades?
Of the 39, a total of 17 are deployed in Iraq, one in South
Korea, two in Afghanistan and a combat brigade each in
Kosovo and Bosnia. At least two brigades are
unavailable for operational deployments. The 1st
Armoured Division based in Germany has been positioned
in Kuwait. Please tell me the IRAN numbers.

By 2004 the Army was organized in four corps, with four armored divisions, six infantry divisions, two commando brigades, an airborne brigade and other smaller independent formations. Each Iranian division has a different organization. Only the 92nd Division has enough equipment to be a true armored division, and two of the armored divisions are much larger than the others. The 28th and 84th infantry divisions are much more heavily mechanized than the others. Smaller formations in the army include the 23rd Special Forces Division, established in 1993-1994, and the 55th Paratroop Division. One source reports that the 23rd Special Forces Division is the most professional units in the Iranian Army, with 5,000 regulars soldiers

I am not sure dude, the Iranians are kinda secretive about thier military. But they do have a huge military and are quite well armed. Why are you asking this question, you want America to go to war with Iran or something? I don't think that's going to happen, now that the Democrats are the majority in the senate. Dude, just think of the consequences of carrying out such an attack aginst Iran, there is no point of escalating things. Violence breeds more violence.

Well, since brigade size can vary by army, it's tough to equate Apples to Apples.

Estimates put their army at @ 350K - 400K men in uniform, operating in excess of 1000 MBTs and likely a similar if not larger number of APCs.

Below is a link explaining Iran OOB (Order of Battle)...

And a brief overview of their army...

The difference is equipment. Iran is armed primarily with Soviet or Soviet Knock-off equipment, along with some of our 1950-1970 surplus.

In major land operations they are NOT a major threat. The issue comes (as it has in Iraq) once you defeat their mechanized army and are faced with soldier-to-soldier combat. With over 1 million service capable reserves available and armed, they would be a major problem for our forces.

Sure, we'd still maintain a 10 to 1 or higher kill ratio, but why? What is there to be gained from such losses (on either side)?
