One topic that has been discussed a great deal in recent months would be the mysteries surrounding Leonardo da Vinci. How about the effects of the Internet on society and culture? How is a country that invokes the death penalty different from a country that doesn't? The pros and cons of decriminalizing marijuana would be an interesting topic. Or consider the issue of the use of medicinal marijuana. Is the world really over-populated or is that thought an urban myth? You can find a wealth of information on various aspects of global warming. Is there intelligent life on other planets? Does the full moon really affect behavior? Is there such a thing as a "right to die"? I hope this helps. Good luck with it.

The very first time I was asked to write a paper I was at a loss to find my subject. Then, realizing I could pick anything of interest to me (so I'd be able to speak from the heart and be convincing) I selected the topic: Records and Why I Collect Them. I swear, the paper was so easy, because I loved listening to my records over and over, and it was simple to tell why they made me feel so good (I gave sample titles and told what those songs meant to me).
So, think of what makes you happy. What activity would you like to convince a friend to share in with you? What do you want but can't get (and why)? Think of the WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN and WHY in connection with things/events in your life. You have lots to say, it just takes a calm mind to settle on one subject.
Pick something you feel sincere and motivated about, you'll find that the things to say are inside you, and waiting for the right way to be expressed. Good luck and have fun.
ps/ maybe, since it's for 'research/writer', you could write about the challenges overcome in trying to locate information from the maze of methods available...

predictions on the idiot liberal mess in congress for 2008...be mindful here razor thin margins on less than fifty percent turnout and too close to calls hardly are a mandate. also the midterm losses have happened every term since roosevelt.

A lot of people write about things they know about, such as people and places.
Why don't you write about someone you don't know....that maybe you see occassionally in passing, and what is it about them that you think makes you retain the memory of them to remember that you have seen them before.

Write something that you like, not what someone will like. Do something that everyone knows about it like money, gold, world finances...........or the election or even the 9/11 attack, yah know, things that people know.
