A friend said that a blood vessel must have burst, but that it's nothing to worry about. Should I worry about it?

It does sound like just a broken blood vessel but if it's really bloody then it could be more serious.

Is it causing you pain or discomfort?

If it isn't hurting and there is not a whole lot of blood then I don't think there would be much to worry about. BUT if it doesn't go away after a day or 2, I would be more concerned.

Remember to always consult a doctor if you feel the need regardless of whatever advice is given on this site. :)

Have you vomited or done something strenuous lately? It probably is a blood vessel that has burst. I had horrible morning sickness when I was pregnant and my eyes looked awful for the first couple of months because of the pressure from vomiting. Sorry to be gross. If you are concerned, go to your doctor and find out for sure. But most likely it's not something to get too worried about.

Based on your description, I surmise that you have a subconjunctival hemorrhage. You are correct, it is caused by a burst blood vessel. However, it is a benign condition and not a cause for concern. It will heal in several days without any treatment. Have your blood pressure checked, although it's a fairly uncommon cause. Trauma is the most common cause. All in all, you are fine. Don't worry about it.

If it is a small dark red spot, then you have burst a small blood vessel. Absolutely nothing to worry about. Probably happened while you were sneezing or coughing.

If you have itching, burning, pus drainage,or eye pain, consult your doctor. Otherwise it is probably burst blood vessel that will reabsorb the blood in a few days. Protect the eye from injury and relax.

just sounds like a burst blood vessel to me, which really is no big deal, sometimes even sneazing hard can cause that..if it is a burst blood vessel you will see imporvment in about 4 days, and in about a week it should be totaly gone..

it sounds like it probably is a broken blood vessel and it will heal on its own nothing to worry about but if the eye is a bright red with any pussing when you wake its most likely a eye infection like pink eye which is easily cleared up with prescrption eye drops

I think your friend is right in part, but I think you should look into this more carefully. I don't know why, but I am led to think it may have to do with your liver. Yes, your eyes are a mirror of whatever is going on inside your organism, and your liver - according to Chinese medicine - is directly linked to your eyes. What have you been eating and drinking lately? Anything that could have affected or damaged your liver? My two cents.

This from another Sam D.. An injury would seem the most probable cause , although an infection cannot be dismissed. If it does not go away or worsens I suggest a doctor.

No - she's right - it's a subconjunctival hemorrhage & the blood will reabsorb. If it recurs get your blood pressure checked
