I'm from Oklahoma.. I don't think 6 months would be enough. Then when I went home I'd need a translater. Or you could come visit the folks and learn to eat "taters and maters". I love many of the UKs dialects and accents. If I spoke that way UK women wouldn't seem near as cute.

Of course not. Does everyone in the UK speak the same? A Scot does not speak the same as an English or Welsh person. Every country is full of different dialects. Take your biggest missile, sit on it...and launch HEY MERLIN...that was un-called for.

What ever gave you the idea that the Queen's English is "proper" English? Do you think citizens of the UK should be forced to live in the US to learn how to be proper citizens of the world?
I hope you're just trying to be funny. Sadly, you failed miserably.

Of course not. We aren't speaking the Queen's English. A long time ago a group of people came to what is now America and after a time had a little tea party and subsequently - removed itself from England.
What we speak is American English - well most of us - and they teach it right here in the United States in classrooms all over the country.

Boo!
I speak English quite well thank you, and the British don't set the standard anymore. Most of modern English uses French words thanks to William the Conqueror.
We pronounce tomato correctly because it is a Spanish/Amerindian word and we use their pronounciation.
Most Americans accept multiple dialects, like Southern or Minnesotan(my favorite, don't cha knoew).
But more importantly, do you really want that many americans to come to the UK???????
Seriously, we are loud and rude and would drive you all nuts!
And we are stubborn, we'd probably enforce our pronounciation on you'all!

We kicked them out of our country once. For you to say proper English may not be proper to us. This is the American version. I don't see the whole world revolving around London time, do you? Most of the world is revolving around New York. We settled this country and made our own culture. We just happened to use the English language.

I'm all for Americans learning English. Thanks for buying our Trident missiles too. EDIT: I was reading a few other answers and they all have a few good points. As an American I do have to wonder if MICHAEL K has ever heard of Greenwich Mean Time??

Heck no! I think Britain doesn't set the standard on which we Americans speak. We came out from British rule ion 1776. So, don't even think we need to do that, alright? And dont think about blowing us away with missles.
P.S. Check Check Check Check Check Check Check

Yes - As long as the precipitation in Andalucia drops primarily on the wide open grasslands. And - if the UK internment would also allow for import of special dietary food from "the continent".
