this question may offend some of us,,, it is primarly for Christians , but for all,
we tell our children there is santaclause, and tooth ferry and easter bunny,,
when our children find out that there is not any of these , there is no wander they dont believe us when we try to tell them about Jesus.
Its just anouther storry to them,,
the question is ,do you think we are makeing a big mistake telling them such things?
are we not training them up to be athiest ?
can we not see this?
can you imagine how devastating it must be to our kids when they find out its all a lie?
and last , how can we expect them to believe a word we say after such a lie ?
will they not lose all confidence in us?
i know there will be alot of people that may defend this , and say our kids are only children once, but this is the years that are most important to plant a seed of truth in them, and to show our kids that mommy and daddy will tell them the truth,,,,,do you agree?

Awesome Point.
When I was nine years old, my mother DID tell me that Jesus was like Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny. It took me thirty years to figure out she was way wrong. But I can say that my faith is very solid and I know Jesus personally now. Almost as much as I did before Mom told me what she thought was the truth. In a way I am glad she did.

May GOD richly bless you.

Santa, tooth fairy and bunny are not real and never have been real characters. Their purpose is just to delight the children. Children know that Santa cannot fit down a chimney, that a bunny cannot carry a basket or that a tooth fairy would be willing to part with money for dirty teeth. Jesus was a real man that can be proven with historial and biblical facts. There is no doubt that he was born and that he died. The question between religions is whether is was the son of god or not.

Personnally, I think we do more harm trying to make children into miniature adults long before they are ready to accept the harsh truths. And the period that Jesus died in was full of horror stories of torture and murder.

So, no, I don't agree that letting children believe in fairy tales is harmful.

Were you devastated when you found out there was no Santa? I'm sorry if you were. Fables and stories have been a way of life for hundreds of years. They do no harm and can teach valuable life lessons not to mention providing hours of entertainment. Children realize this as they mature. I, an atheist, and see no more harm in this than a person of faith telling there children the stories of their religion. A fairy tale is just a fairy tale.

Oral traditions from parents are a life skill to teach the child to grasp the meaning (moral) point of a story regardless of the authenticity of the literal story taught!

Jesus taught this same way! He did not idolize the ink on a page, and investigate the authenticity, but compassionately revealed the human condition of His time in a way that taught a greater lesson through words, emotions, an the innate soul of the people He interacted.

When I was your age I also thought as a child. When I became a man, I realized to teach effectively the child needs a variety of senses and skills to be successful in life. Each child learns through their total mind and body experience. Fables, oral traditions, fantasy, imagination are key components of a healthy mind.

Regardless of your faith tradition, the historical fact remains that Jesus the Christ is real and His message is enduring.

I think it's wrong to lie to children. I'm against telling stories about the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus. Not only are these lies, but they take away from the essence of the holiday! Easter isn't about eggs, and Christmas isn't about presents!

hmm ok i see your reasoning here.

Please apply your reasoning to this...

"sorry child, there is no ultimate purpose for your life, to sum it all up for you child, here it is ..you ultimately Came from Nothing, you are the product of random chaos, you are not going anywhere, and you have no purpose in life, but to live then die, yes No purpose at all"

" oh and little child, if you were wondering why mummy left the goldfish in the attic, she is hopping that if she leaves it there for a few thousand, or million years, that it will evolve into a Really cool pet cheetah"

"oh, and i am going to leave the rusty old motor car in the driveway for a few thousand years and hope it evolves magically into a Rolls Royce."

No offense here mate, just playing, but i like these questions, they help us think

Come on...Do you really believe you came from nothing, are going nowhere and have no purpose being here?, No you have a purpose and a reason for being here. you are the product of an intellectual mastermind, also one with a sense of humor (-: i might add.

Be sure to find out for sure before its "good-night"

Oh and Santa clause, yeah i agree with you on that one.

(-:

Where on earth is your sense of fun and the child in you. You will be a boring person if when a man you throw all childish things away. Always keep a bit of child in you. It is ok to always believe in fairies or a tooth fairy for example. Have fun with children.

Yes, I agree. Another thing you can add to your question & commit. Why does parents tell their kids that they love them & so many parents are getting divorce, I do understand some marriages is not meant to be like abusive, How will a child understand that their parents love them if they are not going to be around for them.

Santa Clause is actually based upon a real person named Saint Nicholas who presented a man with a bag of gold for each of his three daughters so they would have a dowry.
