Go to http://www.annualcreditreport.com

This is the government mandated site that is TOTALLY FREE -- it will not require you to put in your credit card.

Go on line to get the mailing addresses of the 3 major credit bureaus. You will have to write to them and request your reports through the mail.

They will need to know your SS#, date of birth, and current mailing address.

If you do this right there is a neat trick a bank loan officer told me. Get only one now. Get one from a different bureau in 4 months. Then get the third one from the last bureau 4 months later.

By doing this you get all 3 reports in a years time and can keep track of your credit every 4 months for free. Then just start over again next year in the same order.

This is perfectly legal and within your rights, the bereaus don't care when you get your report from them; all at once or spread out.

The annual free credit report costs you nothing - it's the credit SCORES that require a fee of appx $8. When you go to the site, just print out the form that allows you to mail it in. This will slow the process down, but you will still get your free credit report and you can add a check if you want your score as well.

Contact the three organizations for the mandatory free (once in a year) credit report; these are based on your SSN or Employment number.

2. www.experian.com/
3. www.transunion.com/

Here's what to do. Apply for a credit card - a store card or a visa type card. They will either give you the card or not - doesn't mean you have to accept it but they run a credit check and by law they have to disclose it to you if you ask for it.

Whala - credit report that cost you nothing!

it is free to get your report once per year. www.AnnualCreditReport.com is the recommended site from the FTC (federal trade commision). Also if you apply for credit of any kind and are denied the information to get additional reports (free) is always in the letter you get that says you were denied.

You should NEVER have to pay for your report!
