It's Veterans Day and I'm proud of my service to this country (1982-1985, USN, PN3), and of my husband's service (1981-1987, USN, ASM3). Just wanted to know if there are any fellow vets out there, when you served, and if you are proud of your service. And thank you to all.

6 years and counting SSG <--for almost 2 weeks. Hanging out in lovely Afghanistan with the rest of the guys and girls of OEF-7. Won't be home for Christmas... send Girl Scout Cookies...or the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders?? Hey it's my fantasy leave me alone. HAHA

I know we have all lost loved ones but there is a quote by Gen Patton that I like. If you don't like it please take no offense.

"It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived."
- General George S. Patton, Jr

If he were alive today I'm sure I would have said men and women.

1998-2004 USN MM2(SS). I am proud to have served as a nuke MM aboard the mighty USS Bremerton (SSN698). I served with some of the finest men I have ever met or will ever meet.

There's a letter from the VA going around that they're trying to start a tradition here like in some other countries where vets wear their medals on veteran's day. I don't have any of mine anymore, but I would if I did and I will next year. I will wear my fish (sub warfare pin)today, though.

Take a little pride in yourselves today, vets. You are the true patriots that keep America safe.

Um, I thought Serving my Country was my benefit not a day off hell I get enough of those anyway at least 1 a week. Oh That's right I forgot I am in the middle of the Something for Nothing Generation. Just Remember the 4th Army Core Value "Selfless Service" and you should be OK, If not take a sick day and watch "Saving Pvt Ryan" or "Blackhawk Down"

1973 -1993 USAF Ret.

I wasn't too proud of the fact that my retirement pay is less than 1/3 of what I made when I was active because of all the increases to housing and food allowances instead of my basic pay. had to find another job immediately upon retirement and I wasn't eligable for unemployment.

then the fact that the courts took half of my retirement pay and gave it to my ex sucks big time.

20 years and not much to show for it. I'll have to work till I'm 70 now. maybe longer as my job in the AF didn't have a civilian equivalent so I earn low wages.

yea.

Here I am. Many thanks to all fellow vets. I am particulary in awe of the new generation now serving in Iraq / Afghanistan. Who said the next generation would be soft? I enjoy visiting with WWII vets. Now THERE is a heritage we can all be proud of! God Bless Them All!
