You child is entitled to the citizenship of one or both parents, depending on the rules of that or those countries. In addition, there are a few countries that give citizenship to almost anyone born there: Canada, France, Ireland, Panama and the US are examples, but there are a few others as well.

Most countries will give citizenship (dual) to a child whose parent is still a citizen of that country. The child usually keeps dual citizenship till they are 18. Voting in the U.S. cancels most dual citizenships as does serving in armed forces.

In Switzerland, being born in the country isn't enough. BOTH your parents must be citizens.

Honestly, and no offense, I wish the US was this way too!

Congratulations on the birth of your child. Depending on where the child is born will determine its' citizenship.

This is the reason we need to stop anchor babies from becoming immediate citizens.
