You are looking at the idea of serving god from the point of view of "lesser" to "greater." This is the basic concept of all monotheism, including Christianity. The monotheistic god has a list of rules and regulations that you must abide by and in-so-doing, you are supposed to be pleasing to this god. You will be rewarded for fulfilling the monotheistic god's wishes and if you do not, you will be punished for not doing so.
This, in my humble opinion, is a very simplistic view of the relationship between a human being and deity. It could well be described as a parent/child relationship and unfortunately negates the potential development of the child. In short, there is nothing in the bible or any of the other written holy books which addresses the change in relationship once the child has reached adulthood. Therefore, in my opinion,
All the holy books work well when a particular individual is at the spiritual "child" stage of development. When a person is in this stage of being, having rules and regulations plus a positive or negative end-goal is helpful in that it aids the person in conducting their life in a manner that is both spiritually and socially acceptable. But what happens once the individual grows and awakens past this level in their personal spiritual development?
Judging by your questions, I think you have gone past the child stage and have entered the testy teenage stage of development. You are questioning the whole thing and wonder why an all powerful monotheistic god would need or want your service. This is good in that you are beginning the process of seeing where you fit, and how your spirituality can best serve while at the same time, is being served. In short, you are moving towards a more fully actualized spiritual state. One that will eventually give you great satisfaction while at the same time, produce a desire in you to "serve."
Once you reach the adult state of spirituality, "service" will no longer be a problem for you because you will know exactly why you serve and for whom. At the same time, and in fact this always works in tandem, you will develop an adult relationship with deity where deity aids and serves you while you work and serve deity. In short, a real adult relationship with Deity can be viewed similarly to a wonderful relationship you have with a good friend or someone you care deeply about who is a family member. You know in your heart of hearts that if you are in need, this person will be there for you 100%. The classic case of "this guy would give me the shirt off his back if I needed it." And you would do the same for them.
In order to develop a more adult relationship with deity, you have to get past the books. They can be a good start but that's all they are. A start. All they are capable of doing is "showing" you an idea of deity but unfortunately, they stop you dead at worshiping and being a devotee. They are unable to provide you a path into the fundamental mystery of your being (your "what am I here for," question) - and by asking you to be a devotee through your blind service to deity, you are unable to grasp a more fulfilling understanding of just what deity is. All you know is that you are being asked to do something but you are given no satisfying reason why. This relationship is therefore parent/child. You are being told to clean your room and when you ask why you have to, you are told, "Because I said so!" And if you don't, you receive some kind of punishment like not being given your allowance. In the case of Christianity, you go to hell rather than heaven.
Developing a more adult approach to your personal spirituality is not easy. It means that you must open yourself up to the fundamental mystery of your being and your presence in our contemporary world. But the bonus for doing so is not only a more satisfying relationship with deity, but an understanding that like your personal relationships with those you care about, these relationships can and do change.
Good luck with your journey! And know that all religions to one degree or another, have the tools to develop this more satisfying spiritual life. The only thing is, if you are looking at "book" religions, you need to read between the lines. It is important, in my humble opinion, to look at the writing as allegory or myth. Your path is through what the myth is trying to say or impart. Not the literal meaning of the words. And don't be afraid to examine those religions that are earth based. Things like North American Aboriginal spirituality or Wicca/Paganism. These paths do not have holy books. Due to that, you are forced to open yourself up to the mystery because there is no intellectual pursuit, no words, to get in your way. You are asked to become open to your being and how this interplays with everything around you. From there...
A real, adult, satisfying relationship can grow and develop. You will serve when asked, (just like your friend needing you for something) and you will be served when you need service.

God does not "need" anything from us. He/She is all knowing and loving. However, by serving, or should I say loving other people we are in essence serving/loving God. I believe it is our purpose to serve/love/help each other. There is no payment that exchanges hands, but rather a good feeling inside...those intrinsic rewards we get in helping others out. It's our reward for doing good...when we err on the bad side our conscious gives us the negative rewards. It's all part of the mysterious system God has put into place. I don't think it's God's entertainment either. He is a creator and watches us achieve, fail, grow, fall back. He made us creators on earth to create our own existence whether positive or negative given our social surroundings and family tendencies. God gives us a choice to do good or bad. Certainly he could force His will and make us choose the loving path, but then that would interfere with our own creativeness. It's the gift of free will, you see. I would say no the the stupid, lazy and weak questions supported by the statements above. Busy or not.....I wouldn't know...but, I feel rather, He is watching over us, His creators on Earth revelling in the good we do and have sympathy for us when we do bad. I'm sure all the souls of eternity are also helping God out in sending messages or help in ways we don't recognize.
What are we here for?....spiritual growth, to love/help (serve) others in need whenever possible. Good luck on your search.

This is a great question....We as Christians serve GOD.. What that means to me is I am not lead by mans greed and selfishness but by GOD'S desire to make me a better person according to his plans for me ... Look at it this way.. You have a job,you get a paycheck from it regardless where on the chain of command you are..Thats mans world.. In GOD's world, I have a paycheck, job and so forth but the difference is I work for GOD not man.. The reason.. Man cannot ever make me happy but GOD can..Being a servant does not make me weak or whatever . It means I choose to put GOD'S plan ahead of my own..Which means I will be stronger in the whole work of things.. GOD does this to strenthen us not weaken us...
Actually GOD does pay us but not in monetary value...We are praised for our good works and we have the knowledge that we have life everlasting..To me , no paycheck can do all of that..
As to why you are here.. The answer is to seek and find GOD .. Once you have the answer and know your own personal reason as to what GOD has in store for you , things will be much clearer to you.. He does have a plan for you . If you give our Father the chance , he can show you some awesome things that will help you grow in who YOU are ... Its all meant to help us grow to better stewards of his creation...you wouldn't rent your place to someone you knew would mess it up.. Well GOD is the same way.. He teaches us how to serve others and most of all him for our own benefit...Responsibility and reliability are parts of being a servant. I hope this helped you with your question... :)

There are many Gods and there is no God.
A God acceptance, like so much in life, is a matter of personal choice.
Throughout history the story has been that ' my God is better than your God.' Typically this concept was established & enforced by military force.
Today, it appears that God is endowed (by man) with the abilities of being EVERYWHERE; ALL KNOWING & ALL POWERFUL.
If this is your God ( and it doesn't seem to be ) then your question becomes oxymoronic: why indeed would would such a God have needs
that he needs a mere human entity to fill?
Nevertheless, wait a bit for the BS to pour in in response to your question.

In this context, servant should mean obey God's commandments faithfully. Besides creating us,God has provided us with everything for us to live through this life on earth. Our body is useless without the soul attached, the soul was given to us in the purest form, God expect the time the soul return will be as pure as it was given. Life is just a preliminary stage to set trial on individual's faith towards the God , God will evaluate how good or evil we are so as to where to put us in Heaven or Hell in the eternal life.

God is the Almighty. He expects us all to be as Christ like as humanly possible. He expects us to help lead others into the truth and the light with our testomonies of the wondrous things He has done for us. God does not have to prove anything to us. That is where faith comes in. We should help the less fortunate, speak to those who are imprisoned, feed the hungry, give drink to those that thirst for if we do not do this for the least of those on earth then we have not done it for Him. God is loving and although bad things sometimes a happens to good people God is always preparing us for something different. When we are hurt or angry sometimes we want to lash out and blame it all on Him for letting it happen but our loving Father forgives us for that also. For what you give in this life so shall you receive. Be good to everyone, love them even if you feel they don't deserve love. Most of all let them know that God loves them. That's why prison ministry is so important. Some of those inside there have committed horrendous crimes but God still loves them and wants them to turn to Him. Life is not always easy and when the devil is continuously leading people astray with promises of money or fame or material things if they've never heard or been taught about the love of God or the sacrafice of Jesus then they see no wrong. The answer to everything is love. Pure simple love. Treat people the way you wish to be treated. Love people like there is no tomorrow. Tell them thru words or a pat on the back or by giving that dollar you have in your pocket that you were going to spend on a coke anyway. Don't judge people but love them and try to understand why they feel the way they do.All people. God leaves a lot of this work up to us and why should we complain. We owe Him everything we are and everything we will ever be. He is our Great Creator and He sent His only Son to die for our sins. We are all here to spread the good news of the Gospel. To do that we must understand it. That means we have to read the Word. Then take up our cross and live knowing that we are bound for that glorious city one day and we want as many people as will possibly listen and believe to be there with us.

God needs nothing. God is our loving Parent Who wants his/her children to get along with each other. In order to help us understand how to do this, words like servant, friend and disciple are used in the Bible. All of these words describe people who try to make the lives of others easier. They are not in it for themselves, although in doing so their lives are also blessed.
We use words to help us understand our relationship with God. and with each other. Ex: God created us. We do not like that word as it makes us look like a "thing" rather than a "person." We "belong to God" and thus God has a "right" to our "serivce."
Servants are there to help others. Jesus said, "What ever you do to the least of My people, you do unto Me." When we serve others, we serve God.

We are servants of God....not FOR God. This means that God works through us to accomplish His purposes on earth amoungst the created order. This entails the indwelling of His Spirit in the believer and it is His plan to partner with us because His love is such that He wants us to share in the reward of loves ends with the partnering as the means to eternal joy and universal good will in the domain of His kingdom. God is not stupid, lazy, weak. Busy? Absolutely. Busy accomplishing His will through us and for us. What are you here for? To Love and enjoy Him forever.

We are servants of God on earth..to those creatures He has created...and servantship demands obedience to none but the Owner...
Since HE put you here...gave you life...taught you right and wrong...you should feel obligated to no one.
Thats what it means to be a servant...and even more than just...serving tea my friend.
