my partner and I are looking into getting a border terrier, but we both work 4 days a week, however he doesn't leave the house until 9.30 am and I am usually back at 4.30pm. we also have two different family members who are prepared to come at lunch time and take the dog out for a walk. we also don't have a garden but live right near the beach. Is this the best dog for us and if so what age is best? if not can you recommend any other medium size dog that would be better suited to our lifestyle? we will be totally commited to the dog we get and just want to make sure we're getting the right one for us.

I am nit sure if border is realted to rat terrier- but my 2 rat terrier's are holy moly! do not get any type terrier- ? or I could be wrong? however I do have a few dogs- one especially sweet- she was highly abused, and I got her and all 5 of her pups 4 yrs ago- but she is a mix of lab/rott/pitbull- she weighs about 40 pounds, her legs arer shorter than her body is round- heeh she is a roundy!
but Labs LOOOOOOOVE the water, so if you could get a Lab/Mix, it would not get so big, and then you would have the benefits of having a lovely lab, I have one, and every summer when we open our pool, he is the first to jump in!
do your research, and be sure to adopt, rather than buy- adoption saves- buying only supports puppy mills.
go to the humane soceity.
good luck!

Try a local rescue, they can help you alot when getting a dog, because they place them in foster homes alot and the foster parents take a list of what the dog likes, but spaniels love water, get two if you think the will be home alone alot.

Best of look

Go to www.americankennelclub.com and look up Norwich Terriers. They have a full description of their temperment and a list of reputable breeders that can give you advice.
