Kidney infection in my dog, and now my cat.How can two animals get the same life threating disease? I lived in a house with a pool in the backyard for 4 years. I had my cat snickers when I moved in. I bought snoopdog 2 years later. They allways were drinking water out of that pool against my wishes(how can you stop them) I had to move out when snoop was almost 2 years old. About 11 months later snoop got very ill, very fast. Snoop had an operation, that was very $$ Thank you Bark,ASPCA,ANIMAL ASST LEAGE. Snoop has passed on. Now my cat has the same problem. Could it have been the poolwater?

I have never had cats and a pool at the same time. The amount of cholorine you put in a pool to rid it of bacteria is very high. I use a Brita water filter for my cats' water inside the house because I can smell chlorine when I run the tap. It also makes my coffee taste better.

Sorry that the animals were harmed by drinking from the pool. That would be hard to solve. A fence could keep the dog away from it and it wouldn't deter a cat if he wanted to drink from it.

I have a community flood control drainage ditch that runs through the back of my garden. My 22 yr old cat will drink from it and some neighbors have been disposing of toxic things "upstream". Cameo was poisoned by something in that water. Fortunately she vomited a lot and she did lose the use of her back legs for several hours. I have two sources of water always available in the back yard too and I have had to take a broom to Cameo to keep her out of the ditch.

Martin Goldstein, DVM says in his book "if you do nothing else for your pets make sure they have filtered water to drink". This was in relationship to raw feeding and other dietarty issues.

It's not terrible but it's not what you want her to get her primary water source from Heck my yellow (idiot) lab drinks out of the giant puddle in the middle of our yard on a daily basis. She pees next to it, walks in and then drinks. I'd keep fresh water out for your dogs and correct her when she drinks from the pool. I'd praise her when she drinks from the fresh water....

you could keep fresh water outside for your pets. It is expensive to put up fences so I would try differnt ideas first. I don't know if you still have a pool, if you do you need to train the next pet.

sorry about the lose of your pet, I know it is hard. Good luck with your cat.

did someone say chlorine is harmless??
it is a massive possibility that your animals got ill from poisoning.
would you let your child drink out of a clorine laced pool??

if you have a pet, you should care for them like you would care about a child.

and for the person who did think chlorine is harmless, i suggest you drink a cup.
go on!! better for everyone.
