Dad should spring for a couple of jackets that he doesn't find offensive instead of expecting his child to be cold or risk going against what he has said. Then, since there are now alternative jackets she can wear, he can warn her that she will be grounded if she wears one again.

He should not have punished her for trying to keep warm, since she had no other jacket and it was the mother who brought it to her.

A punishment should equal the crime. If you watch something you're not allowed to watch you loose the TV for a week, etc...It sounds like, to me, the father had other things on his mind, maybe a resentment against the mother and he took it out on the daughter. That sucks, but it happens especially when parents split. As a woman I know men can be *******, but we gotta love em. I hope the daughter can speak with the father and try to compromise considering her age.

It does seem a little harsh seeing as those are your only two jackets and it was cold outside. Maybe when he calms down you can talk to him about it.
