I have a bacterial infection in my throat(yum yum). The medicine my doctor subscribed(Amox/K Clav 875 MG Tab Par) Causes diarrhea. Yeaaaa, not so fun. So, with me being in school, I have to go to school on Monday. Would it be safe to take a stool hardener to help control my diarrhea?

Perhaps your best bet would be to take Imodium for a day. If you do all right on Monday, then stop taking it as it will constipate you and you don't want that. This will buy you some time on Monday. Hope you do well soon.

I would eat some yogurt to help with your stomach. Every time you take a dose of you antibiotic I would eat a yogurt. The active cultures in it will stop all of the intestinal problems you suffer from. When you take an antibiotic it will kill all of the good bacteria in your stomach which will cause nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. You should take some Acidophilus if you are lactose intolerant. This is a powder form of the normal, friendly bacteria that live in our intestines (called flora). Our intestinal flora helps regulate our digestion and stool patterns. Yeast also lives in our intestines. The yeast and the bacterial flora are constantly competing for space, and generally they keep each other in check. Sometimes, however, our bacterial flora can get depleted, such as when taking antibiotics. This allows the yeast to overgrow, which can then lead to a variety of problems. I hope this helps you!!!

Augmentin for a throat infection ?strep? is like swatting a fly with a hammer. No wonder you have an ujpset in your bowel. I would discontinue that drug and see if your doctor will give you some Deodorized tincture of opium. A few drops does a great job on diarrhea.

Augmentin is good for a throat infection. Diarrhea is a troublesome side effect, but it will last for only a few days. Then, even on continuing the drug, it will stop. If diarrhea is less tomorrow, don't do anything. If not, you can take Immodium, attapulgite (Smecta) or diphenoxylate (Lomotil) for one day.

I suppose, but just know that you will have the diarrhea for a couple of days after you stop treatment. It kills all bacteria, even the good ones in our intestine. Try yogurt, which has the bacteria in it. May help some.
