Depends where you are thinking of cultivating it .... pants tend to give it a good survival rate ..... socks are also quite a nice spot for yeast infections. Anywhere really ward really.

They are very robust, and will survive in many conditions. In order to thrive and multiply, they need
Food (sugar of the right sort)
Temperature (20-25 C is about the best)
Water
Acidity
The question might be better answered by saying what inhibits yeast. Examples might be high levels of ethanol, extreme temperatures (>40C), sulphur dioxide, sodium benzoate etc.
However, if you put bread yeast in a slightly warmed up oven with flour and water the yeast becomes very active for half an hour. So temperature appears to be an unreliable killer for yeast cultures.
I have found that sodium benzoate or high concentrations of ethanol to be the most effective.

Nutrient source, water, environment (temperature within a certain range, absence of toxic materials, absence of viruses etc)
