WoW! It's unbelievable how some get so angry over this question.! I don't actually care what it's called; winterval or otherwise. I know it's not popular, but...here goes anyway.....
December 25th, according to the Bible, (which is the ultimate and true word, on this subject and all others,) This date, has Pagan origins, and was declared to be Christ's birthday, by humans. The truth, which as Christians, we should be seeking, is that Christ was actually born in the Fall of the year, (Feast of Trumpets and Feast of Tabernacles Holy Days, are the time of the year when Christ was actually born.) Dec. 25th is the date that Mary was Immaculately conceived, BTW)
Most people dont want to hear this; it's too hard to change some beliefs. BUT God does tell us to worship in Spirit and in Truth...soooo.... I guess it will be offensive to some! That's the way the Christmas cookie crumbles!
These facts about Jesus' real birthday have absolutely nothing to do with being politically correct...They were Biblical and true, before all this nonsense about stuff like that.
Anyone who seeks the truth about Jesus' birthday, can read it in the Bible; those of us who know that December 25th is not His birthday, have already proved it to ourselves, and find comfort in knowing the truth that Christ has allowed us to know.
It's not about taking away a "religious" holiday....It's fine with me if people celebrate Dec 25th, no matter what it's called...but....in reality, since it's not Christ's birthday, it's just a tradition, a fun one perhaps, once you get thru all the hassles involved with shopping, the greed of the merchants, the expectations of what you're going to receive, the stress, not to mention the bills and the cookies that didn't turn out, and the commercialism!
So...call it anything...doesn't matter anyway...and I hate to be a party pooper..but Christ doesn't belong in it to begin with...
Why not just call it a WinterFest, and be done with it ? That's all it is, anyway!!!

No way. This country has gone too far with letting other faiths and religions take precedent over our own. Even though I am an atheist I recognise that Christianity is the main religion in this Country, therefore religious activities should follow that faith. For me christmas isn't of any importance in a religious sence, but it is a time to be with your family and the people who are close to you. At the end of the day you can't please everyone, but what you can do enjoy the time of year. If we change Christmas what else will have to change?

It is an interesting notion but I cannot see other religions changing their special days and what they call them and I don't think you could get more than a handful of people to consider going against the flow. Given what today is I'd draw a comparison with those who wish to wear white poppies. I believe there are still pagans who celebrate in their own way but if you enter into the spirit of it and enjoy the 'season of goodwill' then, "a rose is a rose by any other name' or words to that effect. What is in a name if what it means is good.

X-Mas is a revamped version of the Winter Solstice, except with the focus being primarily on buying things. Don't Xians wonder why they decorate trees? This has nothing to do with Jesus and is an old pagan ritual. This act is even prohibited in the Bible as a form of Idol worship. Why is it that I, a non believer know more about Xianity than Xians do?

I'm pagan and I think Christmas should be called Christmas by those who celebrate it as Christmas. I call it Yule but sometimes still refer to it as Christmas since that is how I was brought up. But I am not at all offended by people who call it Christmas because for many people, that is what it is. I don't understand how it is offensive to begin with. That is just ridiculous. Should those who celebrate Chanukah also refer to their holiday as Winterval so as to avoid offending people? Where do you stop? Where do you draw the line? Let people believe what they believe, practice how they'll practice and call their holidays what they are. If you are offended then your life is really sad.

I think it should.Hardly anyone celebrates Christmas because it's a religious holiday. It's a consumer holiday at best.I know a few Jewish and Muslim families who exchange gifts on Christmas. They do it to better assimilate themselves into society in the USA.
I for one only exchange gifts during this time because I grew up that way.I'm not now nor will ever follow any religion. The fact still remains that Dec. 25 isn't even the right day if you're celebrating for the sake of Christianity.I love your idea but I don't think it will catch on until we live in a more scientific and factually based society.Maybe another 2-3 hundred years.
Wow! look at all of the good Christians insulting you just for voicing your opinion.Good thing the Inquisition is over or the good Christians would burn you at the stake.See how they are?Oh,you don't agree with me so you are wrong because I read it in a book where nothing has ever happened.Science has proven much of it impossible already.
Go ahead good Christians, tell the guy he can't think that way like you did for all of the centuries you killed people for not believing your nonsense.Maybe we should get rid of Christmas trees and burn great scientists at the stake as Christians did for centuries.
And further more. This is not a christian country. Most of the founding fathers were atheist you historically bankrupt fanatics.

NO WAY.
Christmas is the bith of christ. It is a religious festival and a tradition in predominately Christian nations.
Would you change the name of ramadam ? of eide ?
NO YOU WON'T SO KEEP OFF OUR CHRISTMAS YOU RACIST PIGS
The christians only hijacked the date of the festival when the new calendars were drawn up, the celbration has been there since the early A.D.

Playing into the hands of the PC brigade again.
Pagans believe in God too, don't they?
Lord Jesus was the son of God.
What reasonable objection can Pagans have to Christmas.
At least the Christians are celebrating this time of the year.

You must be really stupid, Christmas is a religious festival and all religions have them, your too cold for shepherds theory assumes that the shepherds were in England where it is cold in December, try looking at the weather charts for Bethlehem.
