Is anyone else fed up with drinking. You get jostled all night in crowded bar. You spend loads of money, wake up hungover, stinking of smoke and a sore throat. There must be more to life.

Yes, there can be more to life. I've been an alcoholic for 25 years and still pull a good drunk every now and then, but I've learned to have enough control to avoid getting hammered every time I drink. Try to find other things that interest you and then you can spend more time doing other stuff and less time in the bar. Just go to the bar less frequently and you can still have a good time without making it a common habit. Find yourself a girlfriend (I'm just assuming you're male) and spend time hanging out with her instead of getting drunk all the time. And cigarette smoke sucks! If you smoke, you should quit. Smoking will destroy your health a lot faster than drinking will. Alcohol in moderation can be a pleasant thing, but over-doing it WILL make you regret drinking.

I am in exactly the same boat this morning. I however understand that this only lasts until about 6 o'clock and you want to go back out again. If you have been drinking your nerves will be shot, you stink of smoke and wether you think it or not you are feeling under the weather.

Have some food and a hours sleep. Tonight or the next time you go out pick somewhere better to go, you usually find you go place out of force of habit or because everybody else wants to.

Go somewhere different and either come home earlier or go out later. Im 28 and after years of going nuts everytime i go out i am now begining to realise its not fun doing the same old things week in week out.

Go for a meal first is always a good start.

A couple of years ago I felt the same way as you, so I quit drinking and have not drunk any alcohol for about 2 years. I dont miss it at all and I feel far better for it. I also stopped enjoying smoking and quit that a few weeks ago and the amount of money I'm saving is incredible. I've also lost my beer belly and look and feel healthier.

If youre not enjoying doing something, then just give it up. It's probably your body's way of telling you it's had enough.

I'm fed up with the nights at the bars. Same old stuff and get drunk for a few hours. Next day...reality sets in and you wonder WHY on earth did you do that???
I spend most/all of my nights with a few glasses of wine or a cocktail at home. It's best to go without alcohol for a couple of days. This way it gets out of your system and you don't get addicted to it so much.

U comments make sense but we all do it week after week so there must be something in it...! It is certainly English culture......

What I would say is that as you get older, the type of drinking establishments that you pick change.....no longer the loud, crowded bars full of attitude.....these change to becoming pubs that serve real ale and you can find a seat!

I'll see you for a pint later on tonight!

Can't wait till they ban smoking in pubs as then I might drop in for the occasional drink / meal in a nice, quiet country pub - no music or gaming machines please!
And yes, there is more to life than drinking down the pub. Google Alpha Course and see where it leads you....
Take care and enjoy life

Go to a better bar.. don't binge drink. Find a swanky little dive bar with punk rock bands or something.. it's less crowded, less expensive, if you'd ever be down for that I don't know.

A quiet night in with a few cans watching a good film works wonders every now and then
