Most three year old are physically ready for the dance where as not all two year old are further more their attention span is a little longer at three. If they accepted your two year old then they would have a accept all two year old. Believe me I understand your frustration. My son is very ready for some of the sports however he is only 2 and they don't accept them until 3. What I have done is practice with him. Just the basics this way they can keep their interest maybe even increase his efficients so when he starts he can just continue with other children his age.
Get yourself some books and tapes and have her practice her dancing with you. When she turns three she will have some dance under her belt and be able to socialize with other kids when she turns three.

As the parent of two children that danced for over ten years, all of the answers here are good ones. However, in talking to various teachers there really is only one reason. Most children are not completely and reliably potty trained until they are three.
As for the types of class appropriate for a three year old, I'd stick to one that does nothing more than allow the child to make the connection between the music and movement.
In the meantime, don't rush her and give her access to all different types of music. And don't forget to dance with her! Kids love that and will associate dance and music with fun time they got to spend with you.
Good Luck!

I don't know why most classes only take 3-year-olds but you can get together with some other little kids, put on music, and dance with them. When my daughter was about 19 months we made our own little music class with some friends. We sang songs, danced, etc. It was lots of fun (and free).

its all down to the theory of psychology and cognitive thinking, a child of two regardless if they show an interest in something like dance and music, theoretically they havent actually formed the concept of learning, most 2 years olds like music and dancing because its a way of expressing themselves and part of learning. Its the learning theory and all that stuff, a 3 year old has the learning potential and ability to understand what they are actually doing, compared to a two year old who often gets very active and enthralled by music, because its fun and get excited by the attention and rewards by adults as we ask them to do it..........and it could be insurance purposes. but good luck anyhow, im sure when she joins when she is three, she will love it

Most class only take 3 year old because 3 years old can pay attention longer and most of them can sit still for a half in hour or more. Just be patient

Three year olds generally have a longer attention span and can behave in a group better for a longer amount of time (generally speaking) than younger kids. Continue to let her dance around the house, and sign her up next year.

Because the attention span of a 2 yr old is about 2.2 seconds long...and when they are 3 or older they are better able to do something for longer periods of time. Don't be one of those parents who pushes their child to classes wait until she's old enough to ASK to be in class...it will make it more fun than a chore to do...

Listening skills are better at three.
There are now some DVD ballet and dance lessons available that you could try with her. The ballet one even comes with a bar.
You can probably take her to observe a class, but give her time.
She's still just a little thing!
